Dad will love it if you cook up his favourite meal on Father’s Day! Cooking or baking activities have a number of benefits for kids, it helps to develop cognitive ability, improves fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Reading the recipes, recognising numbers and following instructions are all essential skills children will eventually use in their everyday lives.

Get your writing pencils and shopping lists at the ready and have your children write up all the ingredients for Dad’s favourite meal. Start your mission and secretly head to the supermarket to get all the ingredients you need.

Ask your children to tick off all the ingredients as you go along, giving your children important tasks improves their confidence and makes them feel valued (especially when they are fun and your child can pretend they are a super secret agent!)

 

Playing outside together - spending some quality time outdoors! 

Go outside for a nature walk, ride your bikes, play sports or have a picnic in the park! You’ll have so much fun playing outside together in the sun - The opportunities are endless

Playing games like catch significantly helps improve core body strength, upper body strength, hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills - which, you guessed it, ALL help children within their handwriting.

If your Dad is a golf lover then this is such a fantastic activity for the whole family - Grab a few plastic cups to make your ‘holes’, dust off the golf clubs that have been sitting in the garage and prepare to make the ultimate mini golf course in your garden! You could make some score cards and have your kids keep track of and write down all their points

 

Write him a story he can cherish forever 

Write about a fun adventure with you and your Dad to read at bedtime! Have your children think about the start, middle and end of their story and put it all together. Creative writing improves our literacy skills, boosts imagination and self expression! Let their imagination run free!
